The Tamil Arts & Cultural Society of Tasmania Inc is a non-profit organisation dedicated to celebrating and promoting the rich heritage of Tamil culture within the Tasmanian community. Founded on 2 October 2022, our society aims to preserve and share Tamil language, arts, and traditions through a variety of engaging events and educational programmes.

Our Mission

We strive to create a vibrant and inclusive environment where individuals from all backgrounds can learn Tamil language, culture and empowerment. Whether through traditional music and dance performances, art exhibitions, or culinary festivals, we provide enriching experiences for everyone.

Our Vision

Our vision is to empower the Tasmanian Tamil community and foster fraternity among Tamils living in Tasmania. We aim to be a beacon of cultural preservation and promotion, ensuring that Tamil heritage is cherished and celebrated by future generations.

Encouraging multiculturalism by collaborating with various community groups and promoting harmony and peace.

Educational Programmes

Offering resources for educating children about Tamil language, culture, and philosophy through various educational, artistic, and cultural activities

Empowering women through leadership, health and wellbeing initiatives, and educational programmes.

Migrant Support

Providing support to migrants and students to help them navigate the settlement process in Tasmania.

Our Services

Multicultural Collaboration

We are proud to be a vibrant part of the multicultural fabric of the Tasmanian community. Our organisation is committed to fostering collaboration and understanding between diverse cultural groups. Through shared events, cultural exchanges, and community initiatives, we aim to celebrate our Tamil heritage while embracing the rich diversity around us. Together, we strengthen the unity and harmony of our multicultural society. We are holding a membership with the Multicultural Council of Tasmania (MCOT) and the Community Language Tasmania (CLTas)

Migrant and Student Support

We provide comprehensive support to migrants and university students arriving in Tasmania, assisting them in adapting to local conditions, exploring potential job opportunities, identifying required skills, and addressing potential gaps. We organise gatherings and meetings where migrants can interact with the Tamil community and professionals. Additionally, we assist in crafting job applications tailored to meet selection criteria and navigating job interviews to enhance individual's employability in line with current market demands. We are professionals from diverse sectors engage with migrants to assist and menor them for their career success. Furthermore, TACT encourages migrants to engage in community activities and bring their children to the weekly Tamil academy, where they can learn the Tamil language, arts, and culture. These initiatives foster a sense of comfort and connection among newcomers, facilitating their integration with long-standing members of the Tamil community in Tasmania.

Women Empowerment

Our Women empowerment system promotes women’s rights, and economic independence and well-being to ensure equality. Our initiatives aimed at empowering women by creating opportunities, overcoming challenges, dispelling myths, and creating inclusive communities where all women can prosper. Empowered women can reshape future generations to lead the society.

Tamil Arts and Cultural Academy (TACA)

TACA provides weekly classes and workshops in Tamil language, performing arts, mindfulness, and soft skill development. Our curriculum focuses on:

Our curriculum focuses on developing knowledge and skills on

  • Tamil values, heritage, culture, and identity.
  • Tamil language- communication, text structure, reading, writing, speaking and grammar.
  • Compose bilingual (Tamil vs English) text.

Arts and Culture

Our curriculum focuses on developing knowledge and skills on

  • Tamil cultural dance, music, drama and poetry.
  • Tamil language-based performing arts.
  • Contemporary performance and arts in Tamil
